This is mostly because I alt-tab a lot to do whatever and even a one button layout switch is annoying for me. bound so I can comfortably hit them with one hand, since those can be pretty annoying on Dvorak.Īs it turns out though, I don't actually swap to qwerty to play games, I just rebind everything. Besides being able to do what you want, a big advantage for me personally is remapping common shortcuts. All my recent keyboards are custom built, running QMK, which is open source firmware. Unfortunately, I can't recommend you any since they're not what I use I would explore the subreddit's wiki/buying guide if this is the solution you want. From what I remember, some of them have switches on the underside, some have key combinations you need to hit. If you're looking for a hardware solution, there are various keyboards that allow you to switch between layouts. If you want really smooth you may consider getting a non-contact switch such as the optical switches in the Razer Huntsman TE (but you may not like them as they're supposed to be pretty light). Smoother linears would be ones like the Zeal Tealios and Healios (silent variant) but those will be a few times the cost. So for example you could consider getting an AP2 or hotswap with Gateron Yellow, which are a good value linear with an interesting spring. However there are reasons that enthusiasts don't tend to use Cherry MX switches and OEM keycaps. I've tried most types of switches (although not extensively for linear switches) but in the end it's subjective. They won't have the same build quality as DIY/custom keyboards but give you more options. There isn't really a premade option for enthusiast switches unless you go for a hotswap, such as the Glorious GMMK Compact or Massdrop Alt and get the switches separately (they aren't bad by any means, but you'd want the get better stabilisers and the cases both sound a bit hollow). The ducky is a step down from those two, and the Pok3r and AP2 are another step down (the AP2 does have the option of some Kailh Box switches which are interesting). Likely that's the due to Varmilo's Aluminium case, there are versions of the VA68 that have a plastic case.
